Andrew Poad, the site’s general manager for the National Trust, said it was necessary to move the tree “both to preserve the world-famous monument that is Hadrian’s Wall, and to make the site safe again for visitors.”Though the 50-foot (15-meter) tree is too big to move in one piece, experts hope the trunk can be kept in large sections in order to leave future options open on what could be done. The stump, which could generate new shoots, will be kept in place and is currently behind a protective barrier. Seeds have also been collected to see if they could be used to propagate new saplings.“We’ve explored every option for moving the tree and while it isn’t possible to lift it in one go, as the tree is multi-stemmed with a large crown, we have aimed to keep the trunk in as large sections as possible, to give us flexibility on what the tree becomes in future," Poad said.Northumbria Police arrested a 16-year-old boy and a man in his 60s after the tree was felled a fortnight ago. They were released on bail pending further inquiries into what a chief detective described as the “senseless destruction” of the tree.The tree was one of the main landmarks along Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built nearly 2,000 years ago, when Britain was part of the Roman Empire, to guard its northwestern frontier. For generations, walkers have paused to admire and photograph the tree at Sycamore Gap, which was made famous when it appeared in Kevin Costner’s 1991 film “Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.”The tree, which was cut down near the base of its trunk, could grow again, experts said, though they cautioned that it would never be the same.The National Trust has received thousands of messages about the tree, with advice on what to do with the stump and suggestions of what could be done with the felled tree, including making benches from the wood, a sculpture or souvenirs to sell.There will be a public consultation about what happens next at the site.。         　　市水务局加快推进水利项目建设，努力补齐水利工程短板弱项。今年共开工建设水利项目48项，总投资11.37亿元，其中争取省以上财政资金9亿元。为进一步压茬推进水利项目建设，共谋划储备水利项目97项，总投资53.83亿元。         　　在防汛方面，市水务局始终坚持以“人民至上、生命至上”为中心，全市连续11年平稳安全度汛。今年汛期，全市上下从责任落实、会商研判、四预措施、隐患排查、转移避险、物资储备等六个方面强化各项防御措施，成功应对13轮强降雨过程，实现了“不死人、少伤人、低损失”的防汛目标。         　　此外，市水务局还积极推进河湖长制，构建良好的水生态环境。围绕水资源保护、水域岸线管理保护、水污染防治、水环境治理、水生态修复、执法监管等6项重点任务，构建责任明确、协调有序、监管严格、保护有力的管理保护机制。全市四级1045名河长，前三季度累计开展巡河27028人次，推进解决妨碍行洪及清障、河湖清“四乱”、河道垃圾清理、河道采砂监管、水污染防治等涉河突出问题1210个。全市河湖生态得到明显改善，人民群众获得感和幸福感显著提升。         　　市水务局还坚持把学雷锋活动作为民生水利建设的重要内容，从维护群众的根本利益出发，从群众要求最迫切的突出问题入手，在推动民生水利发展中体现学雷锋的成效。为了让群众能够喝上安全水、放心水，积极推进巩固提升、水质改善等农村供水工程建设，不断提高保供水保障水平。今年，投资2668万元，新建、改造维修养护农村供水工程90处，改善了6.9万农村居民饮水条件。截至目前，共累计解决64.6万农村居民集中供水问题，全市农村自来水普及率达到95%，超过全省86%的平均水平。         　　同时，市水务局坚持把学雷锋活动作为党建工作的重要内容，结合“在职党员进社区”、党支部与社区(村)结对共建、驻村帮扶、下派“第一书记”等工作，利用“世界水日”、“中国水周”，积极开展节水用水与防灾减灾知识宣传活动，在政策宣讲、法律维权等方面，力所能及地回应基层群众的关切和需求，不断提升志愿服务的专业化水平，激发学雷锋志愿服务的发展活力和创新活力，进一步形成学雷锋志愿服务人人愿为、时时能为、处处可为的生动局面。         　　市水务局党组书记、局长刘弋说：“ 全市水务系统深入贯彻落实习近平总书记提出的‘节水优先、空间均衡、系统治理、两手发力’16字治水方针，按照省委省政府、市委市政府的要求，大力弘扬新时代雷锋精神，持续推进“岗位学雷锋 领航实好干”主题实践活动走深走实。聚焦全面振兴新突破三年行动目标任务，抓项目争取、抓防汛抗旱、抓河湖长制，服务经济发展、服务民生保障、服务企业园区，进一步拓宽学雷锋活动的深度和广度，牢记全心全意为人民服务的宗旨，积极向上争取政策资金，加强水利工程建设管理，努力实现全市水利高质量发展，为攻坚之年攻坚之战提供坚强的水利保障。”                    责任编辑：刘春阳。
